Assam PCB Orders Brick Kiln Technology Conversion or Operational Shutdown

The Assam State Pollution Control Board directed that all existing brick kiln units not converted to Zig-Zag Technology, Vertical Shaft Technology, or using Piped Natural Gas must cease operations effective 1 July 2026. Brick kiln owners must obtain modified consent to operate upon completion of conversion and comply with all emission, siting, and monitoring norms. This mandate reflects India's environmental compliance directions to reduce industrial pollution from traditional brick manufacturing. All brick kiln operators in Assam are affected and face operational shutdown if they do not comply. Businesses in this sector must immediately assess their technology status and either complete mandatory conversions or cease operations.
